A melting pot of French, Spanish, Caribbean, West African, and many other cultures, New Orleans was a must stop on our road trip. Though I was so excited to finally be in the city known for its great music, food, and rich culture, our visit landed on a sweltering hot summer day. I thought I could handle the heat, but I finally met my match. Keep the weather in mind if you visit in the summertime or at least be sure to travel with plenty of water!
I especially enjoyed our first stop right outside of the city at the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden. It was filled with beautiful works of art and plenty of shade – something I missed as we continued venturing throughout the day.
From there, we parked our car for the day and roamed the city by foot. We walked through the French Quarter to Jackson Square, where we enjoyed a delicious (though not healthy) breakfast of beignets at Cafe du Monde. I was mesmerized by how quickly they served beignets and coffees to the hundreds of visitors strolling through. We took our own walking tour of the French Quarter with a quick stop at the New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum.
We also enjoyed a cable car ride to the Garden District where we admired the architecture and eventually made our way back to the French Quarter. There we enjoyed a drink at the Carousel Bar (yes the same bar featured in my favorite movie Girls Trip) and had a yummy creole dinner for two at the Gumbo Shop. I felt re-energized after such a delicious meal and the weather was much more bearable once the sun went down. Liz and I spent the rest of our evening roaming Bourbon Street in search of live jazz and a cocktail.
Even though I was miserably hot the entire day, I still enjoyed our stop in New Orleans. Have you been to NOLA before, and if so what parts did you see? The next stop on our trip was home to North Carolina! Thanks for reading all about my #NVtoNC road trip and stay tuned as I tackle Europe next!
